Defender, Warrior, Protector { Family Session }

Allow me to introduce you to The Wiles Family. Katie and her husband are the proud parents of two beautiful girls, Laurissa and Alexi. This family touched my heart and it is such an honor to share them with you.

The oldest of the two daughters, Alexi, suffered an Anoxic Brain injury at birth that has now left her with Cerebral Palsy. Because I’m not so great with words (those who know me or follow my blog will probably nod in silence), I requested that Katie and her husband write a little something for today’s post.

From mom… “She amazes us each day as she endures the physical challenges that comes with having quadriplegic CP by radiating a powerful spirit and love that penetrates the soul. Alexi loves unconditionally, she never judges, can be the best secret keeper and the best “snuggle bunny” you’ve ever known.”

From dad…. “Defender, Warrior, Protector”. Doesn’t seem like the common characteristics of a beautiful red headed little girl. Even less like a girl born with an anoxic brain injury. She loves to do many things like every kid does. She loves to sit next her Mom and Dad, she loves to watch Disney movies on her laptop, and she loves to play with her toys. With all of this, how would we have ever known that the definition of her name would be the very characteristics she so readily conveys to those around her. Most of her days are spent fighting to protect the vital necessities of life that most of us take for granted. But, in the wake of it all, somehow she teaches us of love, peace, and compassion – the very things that protect our homes and souls from evil – the very things that draw us closer together as a family – the very things that give us hope for the future. Her name you ask?….. Alexi – “Defender, Warrior, Protector”

Photographing this session was different from my usual style that I go about. But as I watched these two parents interact with their children with such patience and love, I felt so lucky to have photographed this beautiful family.
